So, I was in China for the last year and decided to try to fit some shoots in between my hectice work schedule. To make contact with models I used Model Mayhem and sent out a casting call to any male models who were interested in a nude shoot anywhere in China.
It turns out that there aren't that many! I had two responses, the first telling me that my images were too amateurish and so he wouldn't be interested ... the arrogance of youth eh? Yannick also replied. Now Yannick is a Frenchman living in Shanghai, so not what I was expecting at all! Nevertheless, we were in touch and it actually took many attempts to get a date together, largely because of my schedule. Eventually we settled on a date and I decided to use a hotel room to shoot in but then had the idea that an Airbnb might be better so I tried to find a plce with elements that could add to the shoot and found a small pied a terre in Shanghai. When I got there it wasn't really suitable, but we did get some good images.
On arriving at the apartment the day before, once I had gotten over my disappointment I had three main ideas ...
There was this large chest that I thought might make for good body shots and that I would try to make these as panoramas, the two images from that have, I think worked really well.
Secondly, I have this idea that as a display piece, maybe in a gallery, a series of images which 'deconstruct' the body would be interesting so I shot for that, and i think those are the best images from the shoot
Finally, I had this idea of a series of images with Yannick firstly clothed and then repeating the pose nude with an interim of him partially nude, each set has three images and the idea is to composite the images se that it looks as though Yannick has, as it were walked out of his clothes! I have a retoucher working on the comp, so not too sure whether it will work ... look out for that!
